Poly(arylene ether ketone)s (PAEKs) with pendant quaternary ammonium groups were synthesized via a direct step-growth polycondensation reaction to prepare anion exchange membranes for alkaline fuel cell. N,N-Dimethylethylenediamine and 2-Bromoethylamine was employed to react with PAEKs containing carboxylic acid groups activated. The pendant quaternary 1,4-diazabicyclo-[2.2.2]-octane groups were introduced and alkalinized to enhance ion conductivity of the membranes. The chemical structure of quaternary 1,4-diazabicyclo-[2.2.2]-octane poly(arylene ether ketone)s hydroxide (QDPAEKs-OH) synthesized was confirmed by 1H NMR and FT-IR. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to characterize the thermal properties of the membranes. The anion conductivity , water uptake, ion-exchange capacity (IEC), mechanical properties of the QDPAEKs-OH membranes were investigated for their applications in alkaline fuel cells. |
