Superhydrophobic surfaces that exhibit anti-smudge, anti-sticking, anti-icing, and self-cleaning. Superhydrophobic surfaces with nanostructure morphology were fabricated using nano silica particles and ion beam irradiation method. The ion beam irradiation method is employed to get insigtht into the irradiation effect on surface morphology and surface properties of glass substrates. The obtained surface exhibited superhydrophobicity with a higher static contact angle (greater than 150°) and a lower sliding angle (less than 10°). The surface properties have been investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). This method provides a means to control surface morphology. |
