Portable chlorine disinfection device was produced for disinfecting a drinking water in developing countries, which is based on electrochlorination process. Its DSA anode can be stable for 10 years under certain conditions, such as low pH and anode-cathode separator. In this simple appropriate technology, however, pH control is challenging, and it is operated with non-separated system. This nonideal condition results in accelerating an aging of DSA electrode, and changing a current efficiency of generating chlorine. Efficiency of chlorine evolution can be affected by side reactions, for example, oxygen evolution and chlorinated by-products generating reaction. In this research, we investigated a changing aspect of DSA electrode and efficiency of chlorine evolution affected by basic condition. This research can be mentioned regarding the relationship between the deactivation of DSA and the selectivity of chlorine generating reaction in the pH range relevant for industrial process. |
