Aqueous phase reforming (APR) of glycerol (GL) was investigated using the platinum supported on magnesium-aluminate in a fixed-bed tubular reactor. Understanding the C-C and C-O bond cleavages are important catalytic routes for the conversion of biomass-derived polyols to valuable chemicals for the substitution of conventional petrochemical-based routes. The APR reaction of GL can produce the gas-phase products such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons as well as oxygen-removed useful liquid products. The active Pt metal impregnated by incipient wetness impregnation method on the magnesium-aluminate supports were prepared and catalytic reactivity and productivity were studied in terms of a different metal-support interaction through the surface characterization such as TPR/TPD, CO-chemisorption, in situ FTIR, XRD and XPS analysis. |
