We present a facile method to prepare Europium-arsenite-loaded polymeric nanoparticles as a fluorescent delivery platform for an inorganic antineoplastic agent, arsenic trioxide. To this end, a series of PEG/PAA-based double-hydrophilic block-copolymers (DHBCs) were self-assembled into a core/shell-type nanoparticles via polyvalent chelation with Eu(III) ions, which can then be employed as a nanoscale template for arsenite (AsO33-) incorporation. The initial EuIII-chelated nanoparticles exhibited a highly enhanced fluorescent property in certain wavelength, while the subsequent arsenite incorporation as an insoluble EuIIIAsO3 complex (inside the EuIII-loaded core) further allows for the selective release of arsenite under acidic condition. |
