Recently increased demand for organ transplantation due to aging population, regardless of its dare supply, led to extensive studies on both regeneration and artificial organ. In pursuit of realizing artificial organ generation, accomplishing regeneration of thick blood vessels like arteries is essential; however difficult. Here, we propose a novel vascular scaffold that can be kept biocompatible and long - term in the body using decellularized plant stem with hexane and detergents. The resulting scaffold is porous, biocompatible and provide sufficient mechanical properties as seen in bulky blood vessels. Furthermore, it provides a guidance for vascular cell growth for feasibility in vascular-genesis. Vascular scaffolds derived from plant stem can be used practically in tissue engineering because of their low cost and excellent biocompatibility, and can be applied to various fields of biomedical engineering such as patient-customized blood vessel organoids in the near future. |
