제목 Structural Stabilization of High Internal Phase Emulsions through Interfacial Assembly of Hydrophobically Modified Bacterial Cellulose Nanofibers
초록 This study introduces a novel method forstabilizing high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) with biocompatible cellulosesurfactant. For stabilization of HIPE, we synthesized alkyl chains-grafteddiimine bacteria cellulose nanofibers (C18-DIBC). First, we synthesizeddialdehyde cellulose (DAC) from TEMPO-oxidized bacterial cellulose (TOBC). Andthen, we grafted octadecylamine using Schiff’s base reaction to give amphiphilicityto DAC. The wettability of C18-DIBC was adjusted by controlling the contents ofalkylchains. From rheological analysis, we observed that C18-DIBC highlyenhanced the membrane modulus compared to TOBC and DAC. Furthermore, resilentinterfacial membrane prevented internal phase exchange between closely packedemulsions. Finally, HIPE was successfully stabilized by the robust interfacialmembrane. From these findings, we demonstrated that the strongly assembledmembrane of C18-DIBC played a key role in manufacturing structurally stableHIPE.
