Graphene-bimetallic nanoparticle composite counter electrode for cobalt-electrolyte-based dye-sensitized solar cells |

Composites of graphene with bimetallic nanoparticles composites were used as counter electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells. Simple solution coating followed by a post thermal treatment was employed for the preparation of the counter electrodes and used as a low-cost substitute for Pt to fabricate the counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells. Scanning electron microscopy characterizations showed that nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed on the surface of grapheme and the composite nanostructure resulted in a promising synergistic effect on the electrocatalytic performance for the iodide/triiodide redox reaction. Under AM 1.5 simulated solar light (100 mW/cm2), the dye-sensitized solar cell based on the graphene/bimetallic nanoparticles counter electrodes showed a conversion efficiency which is comparable to that of the cell based on the sputtered Pt counter electrode. |
