The influence of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) nanowires (NWs) on photocurrent generation in photoactive layers with various thicknesses and P3HT nanocrystals (NCs) have been investigated. Transmission electron microtomography was used to investigate the vertical and horizontal crystalline morphologies of the NWs and their interpenetrating networks in the active layers. The interpenetrating P3HT NWs were found to not only promote charge generation as demonstrated by the reduced exciton lifetime determined with dynamic photoluminescence measurement but also facilitate charge transport determined with reduced bimolecular recombination. When the P3HT NWs are incorporated into the P3HT:indene-C60 bisadduct (ICBA) photoactive layer, the device exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 5.17 % and the photocurrents do not decrease up to 600 nm, resulting in 70 % of the maximum efficiency of 3.56 %. |
