We have designed and synthesized of a binaphthyl-containing hexafluoro-isopropylalcohol (HFIP) functionalized polymers for gas-phase detection of nerve agents simulant of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), a nerve agent simulant, using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). Resonance frequency of QCM is shifted due to the adsorption and desorption of a compound at the surface of the modified quartz crystal electrode. We envisioned that the nonplanar structure of binapthyls would render the polymers microporous, which induces better interpenetration of DMMP molecules into the polymer films. We also incorporated HFIP group to increase the binding capacity of DMMP by hydrogen bonding. Presently we prepared several polymers with different ratio of binaphtyl groups with HFIP, and found that frequency shifts were linear to the concentrations of DMMP in the range of 10 - 60 ppm. |
