In this study, we reformed pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO) using heat-treatment with different content of carbon black (CB) to prepare petroleum-based binder pitch and investigate the effect of quinolone insoluble content on compressive strength of carbon disc. The binder pitch properties softening point, quinoline insoluble (QI) and coking value of binder pitches were evaluated by standard methods based on ASTM D 36, ASTM D 4746 and ASTM D 2416, respectively. Coke was molded with prepared binder pitch under 200 MPa at 150 oC into a 20 mm in diameter and 55 mm in height mold and then, it was carbonized at 1000 oC for 1 h. The compressive strength of prepared carbon disc measured by micromaterial tester. QI content and coking value of prepared binder pitch increased according to amount of CB addition. The compressive strength of carbon disc using petroleum binder pitch tend to increased QI content of binder pitch |
