Artificial graphites are manufactured under a series of kneading, molding, carbonization and graphitization with additional impregnation process. In this study, influence of the viscosity of binder pitch in the kneading process on the mechanical property of artificial graphite was investigated. Two different binder pitches were prepared from different precursor, coal-tar and petroleum, and characterized by a steady shear rheological test in increasing temperature. For carbon block manufacturing, kneading and molding process were conducted at the temperature of 0, 30, 60, and 90 ºC higher than the softening point of the binder pitches. The optimum viscosity of binder pitch was found to be around 10 Pa·s, where their fluidity and coating effects reach maximum. |
