Carbon-based materials are promising electrode materials for electrochemical double layer supercapacitors due to large specific surface area, superior electrical conductivity. Most of carbon electrode are fabricated using a binder to maintain a shape, however binder can induces the performance degradation of the supercapacitor. Herein, we suggest the binder-free method to synthesize a graphite electrode using by electrochemical treatment. Graphite electrode are obtained by electrochemical expansion of graphite foil in 3M KCl aqueous solution. Vertical aligned graphene sheets and sponge-like shape are observed on the surface of expanded graphite foil (EGF). After electrochemical treatment, EGF contains the high crystallinity of graphene in Raman and XRD. EGF shows the typical curve of electrical double layer capacitor in cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge curve. The EGF exhibits the capacitance of 228mFcm-2 at 0.5mAcm-2. |
