Enhanced biocompatibility and bioadhesiveness of biodegradable polydioxanone stents coated with hyaluronic acid-dopamine conjugate |

Biodegradable polymeric stents have been proposed as an alternative approach to overcome several problems of conventional metallic stents. However, the polymeric stents still remain limitations such as biocompatibility, mechanical property, and binding affinity to tissue. In this study, we prepared hyaluronic acid-dopamine (HA-DA) coated biodegradable polydioxanone (PDO) substrates via transformation of dopaquinon proceeds to enhance biocompatibility and tissue adhesiveness of a PDO substrate. The HA-DA conjugate was synthesized by EDC/NHS chemistry and immobilized on PDO surfaces. The amount of HA-DA on surface was quantitated and cytocompatibility was also evaluated. The adhesive property was measured by our modified method of ASFM F2255-05. Obtained results demonstrated that HA-DA coated PDO might be a novel and promising biocompatible material for development of biodegradable polymeric stents. |
