Application of Graphene Foam on Flow Field of Bipolar Plates in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells |

Graphene foam is three-dimensional graphene-based material which is fabricated using chemical-vapour deposition on nickel foam, followed by etching away nickel foam. It is combined material which has advantage of graphene and structural characteristics of metal foam. Various kinds of metal foam as alternative of flow field have been developed because high porosity distributes reactants on entire area and removes generated water. However, metal foam is highly susceptible to corrosion in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell operation condition. In this work, we proposed graphene foam as flow field to investigate the effect of graphene foam on enhanced mass transport. Single cell test of graphene foam flow field showed the enhancement of mass transport, leading to increased performance at high current densities. Also oxygen gain and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed decreased mass transport resistance compared with conventional MEA. |
