Hierarchically porous polymers (HPPs) which contain interconnected pores across multiple length scales (i.e., micropore (< 2 nm), mesopore (2 – 50 nm), and macropore (> 50 nm) are desirable for applications where efficient transport is important. To make such materials, different pore generation methodologies should be adequately combined to achieve orthogonal control over pore size and porosity at different length scales ranging from angstroms to micrometers. In this talk, I will focus on HPP consisting of micropores and three-dimensionally continuous mesopores that can be formed by combination of hypercrosslinking and block polymer self-assembly. Details in synthesis and characterization of the HPP will be presented and acceleration in adsorption rate in the HPP compared to a microporous polymer will be demonstrated. |
