제목 Bioabsorabable Bone Plates Enabled with Local, Sustained Delivery of Alendronate
초록 Bioabsorabable bone plates and screws have widely been applied for treatment of bone fractures in orthopedic surgery. However, the patients with osteoporosis may suffer from delayed bone repair, which was not yet resolved with the conventional bone fixation systems. In this work, therefore, we employed a bioabsorbable bone plate, already in clinical use and added the functionality of sustained, local delivery of a drug, alendronate. To realize sustained, local drug delivery, we coated the bone plate with a biocompatible polymer loaded with the drug. To have the coating adhere well to the surface of the bone plate, we used azidobenzoic acid modified chitosan (i.e., Az-CH), which was photocrosslinked by UV light (335 nm). As we performed the in vitro drug release study, the drug was released from the coating at a rate of 4.03 μg/day for 60 days in a sustained manner.#These authors contributed equally.
