Bottlebrush copolymers has received a considerable attention recently because of their unique characteristics including large domain size over a few hundred nm and fast self-assembly kinetics. While most of recent work has focused on the bottlebrush copolymers comprising symmetric length of side chains, only a few studies have been reported on the bottlebrush copolymer with asymmetric length of side chains. To facilitate the potential applications, a systematic synthesis of bottlebrush copolymers and comprehensive investigation on their morphologies in bulk, solution and thin films are required. In this work, we synthesize a series of bottlebrush copolymers in which polystyrene and polylactide side chains are statistically grafted to a polynorbornene backbone. Both symmetric and asymmetric version of bottlebrush copolymers are synthesized in a controlled manner. Morphologies of the bottlebrush copolymers are tailored by simply tuning the length and the volume fraction of side-chains. |
