Hierarchically structured TiO2 submicron spheres with a carbon doping were fabricated by using pH-responsive polymer spheres as a template. In the initial fabrication process, the amorphous TiO2 is formed in the polymer networks by a diffusion of Ti precursors and sol-gel reaction. After heat treatment under air atmosphere, the residual carbon atoms from the polymer chains are remained within the TiO2 crystalline. The hierarchical structures of the C-doped TiO2 submicron spheres depend on the reaction time and concentration of Ti precursor solution. Since the monodisperse polymer spheres are used as a template, it is facile to control the morphology and structure of the resulting submicron spheres. All samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy-mapping analysis and X-ray diffractometry. |
