제목 Synthesis and Characterization of Exfoliated Polymethylmethacrylate/Montmorillonite Nanocomposite with Superior Thermal and Fire Properties
초록 Exfoliated polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)/montmorillonite (MMT) clay nanocomposite was synthesized via pseudo-dispersion polymerization of MMA in presence of alkylammonium substituted polysilsesquioxane surfactant-modified clay and AIBN as initiator in 95% ethanol solution. MMT clay was initially cation exchanged with the surfactant to enhance its hydrophobicity and to expand the interlamellar space of silicate plates. The effects of quaternized polysilsesquioxane-clay concentration on polymer conversion, molecular weight and morphology have been investigated. The intercalation and dispersion of clay were quantified by both XRD and TEM. The exfoliated nanocomposite was found to have better thermal and fire stability and dynamic mechanical performance even with very low clay loading.
