Hydroxyapatite(HA), one of the main components of bone, was synthesized as nano-rod type by wet precipitation technique within a size from 200-300nm. Silica is widely used as dental materials such as glass ionomer. We modified surface of slide glass using silane coupling agent to produce primary amine groups on the surface. Nano-rod hydroxyapatite(nHA) were reacted with L-glutamic acid to produce carboxyl groups on the surface. Finally, surface-modified glass was reacted with carboxyl groups of nHA to be prepared silica/nHA composites. These composites were characterized using TEM, SEM and XPS. Cell compatibility of the composites which is prepared in this study is in progress. |
