Morphological effect of HA on cell compatibility of the electrospun PLGA composites |

Composite nanofibers webs of poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and hydroxyapatite (HA) nanorods were fabricated by electrospinning technique. First HA nanorods were synthesized by precipitation method. The synthesized HA spherical and nanorods were calcined at 400oC to remove the residual organic compounds. The HA nanorods were then suspended in PLGA polymer solution electrospun at optimized electrospinning parameters and characterized spectroscopically. The potential of PLGA/HA composite nanofibers webs as bone scaffolds in terms of adhesion, proliferation and differentiation was assessed by culturing osteoblastic cells onto the composite nanofiber webs. Spherical shaped HA in PLGA composite nanofiber was used as controlled and for comparative study along with PLGA nanofibers. It was concluded from the study of structural dependent property of HA, that HA nanorods have more potential to be used as additive for bone scaffolds compared to HA nanospheres. |
