제목 | Characterization and cytotoxicity of metal oxide nanoparticles in human neuroblastoma cell line |
초록 | Metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) are widely used in various applications of both industrial and consumer products. Despite increasing knowledge of these NPs, the understanding of the toxicity mechanisms of nanoparticles is very limited. Nanoparticles have specific physico-chemical properties different to bulk materials. Nanoparticles are thought more toxic than their bulk counterparts due to their greater surface reactivity. Although the size distribution of NPs was similar to that of the bulk particles in suspension, the relationships between NPs toxicity and their physicochemical properties appears to be complex and difficult to understand. A number of in-vitro studies have reported that the interaction between NPs and various components including protein in cell culture medium is the important cause of the toxicity of nanoparticles. In particular, the change of physico-chemical properties of nanoparticles in cell culture medium supplemented with Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) has unique properties and fate. Therefore, physico-chemical properties in nanoparticle toxicity mechanisms plays a key role to elucidate. In this study, we characterized the physico-chemical properties of metal oxide NPs in cell culture medium supplemented with FBS and other biological ingredients. We also investigated the toxic effects of NPs and their metal ions on the cytotoxicity in human-derived neuroblastoma cells (SH-SY5Y).
