Collagen production plays an important role in wound contraction and tissue remodeling during wound healing. Collagen production stimulants include curcumin, thymoquinone, and retinol, and they must exhibit selective cellular uptake into fibroblasts involved in collagen production for acceleration of wound healing. In this study, we propose an enhanced drug delivery system which is established by using fibroblast cell targeting peptide-conjugated polymeric nanovehicles (PNVs). To evaluate the targeting ability of PNVs, cellular uptake to fibroblast compared to other skin cells was quantified via a microplate reader. Then, we observed the enhanced collagen production through a sirius red assay. Finally, we demonstrated that our cell targeting PNVs exhibited acceleration of collagen production, thus promising the practical applicability of the drug delivery system to effective skin wound healing. |
