Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are mainly produced in mitochondria as by-products of cell respiration process. The serial reduction of oxygen forms different ROS including superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl radical and so on. Abnormal levels of these molecules are related to diseases such as cancer, chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases, nuerological disorders and aging. Recently, a variety of molecular probes based on fluorescence turn-on/off which have several advantages like a high sensitivity, simplicity and possibility to colorimetric analysis by naked eyes are reported. We synthesized resorufin derivatives as a ROS-responsive fluorogenic molecular probe. We studied its selectivity and measured increased fluorescence intensities in accordance with the increased concentrations of ROS. We applied our probe to visualize ROS in cellular imaging and in vivo imaging. |
