Production of bio-fuels from a cheap source of bio mass is important in Green Chemistry. Among the bio-fuels, 5-(alkoxymethyl) furfural (AMF) has drawn much attention because it has higher energy density, cetane number than bio-ethanol and gives no adverse effect on engine. However, the aldehyde groups decreases the cetane number in AMF. In this sense, 2,5-bis(alkoxymethyl)furan (BAMF) could be more attractive bio-fuel than AMF. Herein, by using properly designed catalysts, HMF was successfully converted into 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF), which was turned into BAMF that has diverse alkyl chains. |
