제목 Mechanism of Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to formate catalyzed by Sn
초록 The cutting edge of environmental science drives development of carbon capture and storage technologies to resolve the global warming issues. Subsequent utilization of the captured CO2 for chemical conversion is attracting attentions. Among the various chemicals produced by chemical conversion of CO2, formic acid and formate is attracting interests as a potential hydrogen energy carrier for fuel cell systems due to high volumetric capacity for hydrogen storage. In general, Sn has been regarded as a superior catalyst for CO2RR to formate, in terms of the selectivity. Here, to provide insights into the distinctive catalytic function of Sn-based catalysts toward CO2RR, we construct a complete reaction diagram of CO2 reduction catalyzed by Sn using density functional theory-based electrochemical analysis method. Our results provide a comprehensive understanding over the mechanism of electrocatalytic CO2RR, which could accelerate rational catalyst design toward CO2RR.
