제목 | Chemical Looping Combustion Technology in Korea |
초록 | Chemical-looping combustion (CLC) is one of promising technology for high efficient power generation system with inherent CO2 capture and low NOx emission. The chemical-looping combustor consists of two reactors, an oxidation reactor and a reduction reactor. A fuel and an air go through different reactors. The fuel such as CH4, H2, CO, CnH2n+2, natural gas, and syngas reacts with a metal oxide (NiO, CoO, CuO or Fe2O3 etc.) in the reduction reactor, and release water vapor and carbon dioxide and the metal oxide particles are reduced to metal particles (M).The solid products, metal particles, are transported to the oxidation reactor and react with oxygen in the air in the oxidation reactor, and produce high-temperature flue gas and metal oxide particles. Metal oxide particles at high temperature are again recycled to the reduction reactor and supply heats required for the reduction reaction. It is important that the exhaust gas from the reduction reactor contains only highly concentrated CO2 and water vapor. Therefore, CO2 can be easily recovered by cooling the exhaust gas and removing the liquid water without any extra energy consumption for CO2 separation.Another advantage of this system is low NOx emission because oxidation in chemical-looping combustor occurs at considerably lower temperature without flame. Moreover, the thermal efficiency of the chemical-looping combustion system is very high. KIER (Korea Institute of Energy Research) has been taking major part of development of chemical looping combustion technology in collaboration with KEPRI (Korea Electric Power Research Institute), three Universities, nine industry partners, including two overseas partners (University of British Columbia in Canada and AIST in Japan). In this presentation, research history of chemical looping combustion technology in Korea, developed oxygen carrier, screening procedure of the best oxygen carrier, scale-up procedure, long-term operation results obtained in a 50kWth chemical-looping combustor using two kinds of oxygen carriers and two fuels, will be described. Moreover, future research direction will be introduced as well. |
