Korea Government prohibited the PCBs use in electric facilities(transformer, condenser, electric wire, etc) in 1979. And the production, use, storage, export and import of PCBs and PCBs-containing products were forbidden by Hazardous Chemical Management Law in 1995. But in spite of these efforts of Government, many electric facilities which contain low concentration PCBs are now being found. In the beginning of the year 2003 KEPCO analysed the PCBs concentration of about a thousand and two hundreds of transformers and they found that about 20% transformers were contaminated by low level PCBs(~ thousands ppm). On the basis of the results of this survey MOE had set up a new plan for eliminating PCBs contamination and according to it MOE is carrying out a variety of policies to eliminate PCBs. |
