Plasmonic Conversion of Solar to Fuels |

Plasmonic nanoparticles have shown to trigger or facilitate chemical reactions due to their ability to strongly interact with light. This talk shows that the light-matter interaction of gold nanoparticles rises their chemical potential, allowing the free energy of light to be harvested in the form of chemical bonds such as H-H, C-H, and C-C. The chemical potential contributed by visible-light plasmonic excitation is dependent on the photon concentration. The higher photon concentration leads to the formation of higher chemical potential, which causes the generation of energy-rich fuels. Catalytic activity combined with the capability for harnessing photon energy, the plasmonic nanoparticles promote alternative intermediates and mechanistic pathways. |
