Atomically thin carbon nanosheet akin to graphene properties: Facile synthesis and promising application for organic electronics |

Widely recognized chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of graphene synthesis has serious drawbacks due to catalyst removal and transfer process. Catalyst-free process using sapphire and hexagonal boron nitride substrates, which is unaffordable and limited in electronic device applications, has been reported. Here, we report a novel and straightforward approach to the synthesis of atomically thin carbon nanosheet (CNS) analogous to graphene properties for organic thin film transistor via catalyst-free process. The CNS is directly synthesized on a silicon wafer by heat-treatment of spin-coated polyacrylonitrile and shows higher electrical conductivity (>1600 S cm-1) than that of chemically converted graphene. The CNS on glass transferred from silicon wafer exhibits approximately 92% transmittance. In addition, we use our synthesized CNS as the electrodes of a thin film transistor, and recorded mobility (0.25-0.35 cm2V-1s-1) that exceeds that of gold electrodes (0.2-0.25 cm2V-1s-1). |
