Novel ternary graft copolymers (COS-g-PCL-b-MPEG) were synthesized by N, N’-dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (DCC) coupling reaction between chitooligosaccharide (COS) with MPEG-b-PCL-COOH, which was synthesized via ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone (CL) using methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG) as initiator and carboxylated by succinic anhydride. The structure and properties of the graft copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR, XRD and fluorescence measurements, respectively. A hydrogelation was induced to form a heterogeneous macromolecular network due to the inclusion complexation between the graft copolymer and α-cyclodextrin as well as the micellization of amphiphilic ternary graft copolymer. The crystalline structure and mechanical properties of hydrogels was studied by XRD and rheological measurements, respectively. These novel biodegradable tenary graft copolymers and their hydrogels with α-CD have potential to use as drug delivery systems. |
