제목 | Preparation of chlorine resistant reverse osmosis membrane |
초록 | Nowadays reverse osmosis membrane processes are economical in removing a feed water into a purified permeate water. Reverse osmosis membrane separates substances of molecular level from brackish or seawater to provide potable water for household, agricultural use and industrial process. RO membranes based on polyamide have excellent separation characteristics. However, two issues were brought up as major problems for RO membrane processes; the risk of fouling and degradation of polyamide by chlorine. A noble method for post-treatment of reverse osmosis membrane with silane derivatives to improve chlorine resistance has been studied. Silane derivatives treated TFC membranes were prepared by sol-gel condensation of aqueous silane derivatives and residue amine of polyamide on an active layer of RO membrane. Silane derivatives contain one alkyl group and three alkoxygroups. Comparing the chlorine durability of commercial membrane and silane derivatives coated membranes are reported. Results showed a significantly enhancing chlorine resistance for silane derivatives coated membranes to that for non-treated membrane. |
