Manufacture of hollow CNFs with SAN core/PAN shell co-axial electrospinning system |

Co-axial electrospinning process with PMMA core/PAN shell system has been mainly employed to make hollow carbon nanofibers (CNFs) in previous studies. Co-axial electrospinning process and PAN solution are still promising technique and shell material to make hollow CNFs meanwhile existing core materials such as PMMA solution and mineral oil have some bottlenecks to make uniform and controllable hollow CNFs. SAN which is free from those difficulties was found to be right polymer as a sacrificial core. Uniform hollow CNFs were successfully fabricated with SAN core/PAN shell system. The quantitative investigation into the size of CNFs showed clearly the effect of controlling parameters (i.e. solution concentration and flow rate) on the hollowness of CNFs. Moreover, porous and hollow CNFs were fabricated by altering shell solution into SAN-PAN solution. The uniformity, controllability and possibility on structure modification suggested enormous potential on application. |
