The recent advancements on metallocene have significantly increased the polymerization activity of these catalyst systems together with the use of a novel activator aside from the usual methylaluminoxane (MAO). This study utilized polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a co-catalyst and an electron donor for supported metallocene catalyst systems. The catalysts were prepared by a simple technique using one-pot method that emphasized the synergistic effect of PEI with MAO and Borane activators. The supported metallocene catalysts containing PEI have shown a double increase in the homo- and copolymerization activities. Furthermore, the prepared catalysts were able to maintain the spherical shape of the support which resulted in a good morphology of the polymer. Lastly, further characterization of catalysts was conducted using XPS, FT-IR, and ICP analysis. |
