Mass Transfer Properties of Cobalt Eelectrolyte in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells |

Cobalt electrolyte is one of promising alternative red-ox couples shuttles in DSSCs. In this study, the effect of diffusion coefficient of two different cobalt (II)/(III) electrolytes on the photovoltaic performance of DSSCs are investigated using organic dye containing triphenylamine based chromophore with different anchors/acceptors. [Co(bpy)3]2+/3+ and [Co(dtb)3] 2+/3+ (where bpy = tris-(2,2´-bipyridine) and dtb = tris-(4,4´-di-tert-butyl-2,2´-bipyridine)) are prepared, and then applied to the red-ox shuttles of DSSCs. Their diffusion coefficients are estimated by linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) with various scan rates. The diffusion coefficient of [Co(bpy)3]2+/3+ and [Co(dtb)3]2+/3+ in prepared electrolyte are 1.91 × 10-7 and 2.27 × 10-8 cm2/s, respectively. The high diffusion coefficient of [Co(bpy)3]2+/3+ leads to the 2.4 times higher total ionic conductivity of the electrolyte than [Co(dtb)3]2+/3+-based electrolyte. [Co(bpy)3]2+/3+-based electrolyte exhibits the higher DSSCs photovoltaic performance. |
