In this study, we developed a photonic crystal display using anionically charged acrylic polymer synthesized by emulsion polymerization. With voltage biasing, the colloidal lattice spacing was changed and diffracted light wavelength was also changed by Bragg's law. To solve the electrochemical problems in water system, the colloidal polymer particles were dispersed in a low dielectric non-aqueous medium, and dispersing agent was incorporated. In results, the reflective color of a display cell was successfully changed from red to blue by voltage biasing upto 7 V to be applied as a full color display device. Various colloidal systems were compared to obtain highly reflective color. |
