Volatile organic acids (VOAs) are used or generated in chemistry, biology, and pharmaceutic as a results of both chemical and biological reaction. These VOAs are one of the essential material in relation to microbiological and chemical properties. Because of this, development of VOAs sensor, which can precisely and conveniently detect, is highly demanded. However, VOAs detection conventionally relies on instrumental analysis technology that is complicated, non-portable, and time-consuming. Here, we developed a brief and cost-effective organic dye-based colorimetric sensor array that incorporates ion-paired pH indicators. This ion-paired pH indicators are combination of cationic and anionic pH indicators, leading to increased hydrophobicity, color tunability, and a wide range of color transition changed by VOAs. We demonstrate the ability to detect different types of VOAs in closed saturated air. Our finding can be potentially applied to monitor various type of VOAs in the field. |
