Sepiolite is a hydrous magnesium silicate as natural fibrous clay mineral with a typical molecular formula of Si12O30Mg8(OH)4(H2O)4·8H2O and has high surface area with porosity. In this study, sepiolite was used as a support for a conducting polymer to make a conducting filler. Firstly, it was surface modified by reaction with an alkoxysilane, and then the resultant surface modified material was surface coated by conducting polymer to make a conducting filler. Water soluble monomers (acrylic acid, acrylamide) were polymerized in the presence of the conducting filler dispersion with crosslinker (N’N-methylenebisacrylamide), and the products were isolated to make superabsorbent polymer composites. Obtained products were characterized by FT-IR, TGA, SEM. Moisture absorption performance and electrical resistance of the composites were evaluated at constant temperature(25℃) and relative humidity (RH 50~95%) using a thermo-hygrostat. |
