Recently, water-soluble conjugate polymers have been studied for their biological applications such as DNA sensor, bio -logic system, cell imaging, because of their non-toxic property compared to inorganic materials or heavy metal-based organic molecules. The technique of cell imaging on the microscope stage has become an increasingly useful tool to serve as qualitative and quantitative reporters of intracellular structure and dynamics. Herein, we report the synthesis of a water-soluble poly(para-phenyleneethynylene) copolymers containing 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole for cell imaging. This polymer showed saturated red-fluorescence in water. To investigate the band gap effect of the benzothiadiazole unit in the polymer backbone and to perform optimization of water solubility, we synthesized a family of water-soluble conjugate polymers including 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole in varying ratios. |
