To examine the effect of end capping with stiff alkyl groups, the isothermal crystallization was studied for neat poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) end-capped PEO (PCLA) and conjugated stearic acid end-capped PEO (PCSA). The analysis using polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle x-ray diffractometry (WXRD) indicated that the crystal system itself remains intact after end-capping. But kinetic analysis based on both Avrami and Hoffman theories indicated a significant influence of end-capping on the spherulite growth rate. |
