Enhancement of stability of comb polymer-incorporated liposomes |

To enhance the stability of liposomes, a number of liposomes with various functionalities have been developed. In this study, the comb polymer was prepared as surface modifier and incorporated on the lipid bilayer for stabilization of liposomes. The comb polymer was synthesized by radical polymerization of ODA, HPOEM and HEMA. The structure of the comb polymer was confirmed by proton NMR analysis. The mean particle size of the comb polymer-incorporated liposomes (CPILs) increased from 101.5 ± 2.5 nm to 127.8 ± 6.5 nm with increasing HPOEM content. Evaluation of the stability of the CPILs by measuring the amount of protein adsorbed in serum revealed that the CPILs showed a much lower amount of protein adsorbed than the other liposomes. This result indicated that the stability of CPILs was higher than those of the other liposomes. Thus, the incorporation of the comb polymer on the liposomal membrane can be a promising tool to enhance the stability of liposomes. |
