Various chemical agents used in the wet-processing of textiles and wool finishing often cause environmental pollution. Hence, the textile industry gradually adopting more ecofriendly processes. The enzymatic treatment of textile fibers is a nontoxic and environmentally benign process. In this study, to enhance the performance of wool fabrics, wool was pretreated with corona discharge prior to enzymatic treatment with protease and cellulase. The effect of surface treatments on the mechanical and surface properties of the wool was evaluated. Compared with pristine wool fabric, the enzyme-treated fabrics exhibited lower strength, increased elongation, and higher alkali solubility. The surface roughness and the zeta potential of the enzyme-treated wool fabrics decreased with increasing treatment duration. |
