Room-temperature-vulcanizing (RTV) silicone is a kind of silicone rubber that is generally supplied as a one-part system with a wide viscosity range. Curing of RTV silicone adhesives and sealants involves water and a curing agent in the presence of a catalyst. When these materials combine during crosslink, a chemical byproduct is released; the oxime-type silicone adhesives release a methyl ethyl ketoxime as a by-product of the curing process. Composition of silicone-based RTV adhesives composed of a matrix polymer, a crosslinking-density controller, a crosslonker, a catalyst and an adhesion enhancer was optimized for applications to bonding stainless steel (SUS316). When the optimized RTV adhesive was employed for bonding of the stainless steel, 1.24 MPa of shear strength was achieved. |
