Optimization of Culture Conditions for Enhancement of Phycobiliprotein Production in Marine Cyanobacteria |

Phycobiliprotein is known as high-priced fluorescent markers which have inherent excitation and emission wavelengths. This experiment was to determine the optimal culture conditions for phycobiliprotein production by marine cyanobacteria, Synechocystis sp. PCC 7338. The optimal temperature and light intensity for phycobiliprotein production were found to be 30℃ and 20 μE/m2/s, respectively. Nitrate and phosphate were the most suitable nitrogen and phosphorus sources for both cyanobacterial growth and phycobiliprotein production. Phycobiliprotein in ASN III with nitrate increased up to 2-times higher compared to that with other nitrogen sources. The optimal conditions and their interactions were confirmed by Box-Behnken statistical design. The optimal conditions in this study would be the foundation for the large scale design for phycobiliprotein production in marine cyanobacteria |
