The effect of shear on the phase-separated structures formed in blends containing block copolymers is investigated using cell dynamics simulation based on Cahn-Hilliard-Cook (CHC) equation. The morphology of such blends is established by competition between macrophase separation, microphase separation, and shear-forced convection, leading to a variety of domain morphologies including the macrophase separation between lamellar domains with different orientations. The mechanisms of various shear-induced phenomena such as global orientation, defect annihilation, and shear-induced demixing are discussed. It is found that the shear field largely enhances the continuity of domains in the coexisting microphases. |
