Enhanced Properties of Cast Aluminum Rotor Alloys by Pressurization |
초록 |
The aluminum alloy is used in integrally casting the conductor bars and collector rings of rotors. It must solidify without cracks or excessive porosity to provide the necessary electrical circuits, and develop adequate strength to bind the entire unit together. The mostimportant properties of cast aluminum rotor alloysare: conductivity and castability. Pressurization can influence both the fluidity, i.e., mold filling ability and feedability, i.e., feed metal transfer which are two important factors in determining the castability. Therefore, in the current study, the effects of pressurization during solidification of aluminum alloy A356 were investigated. The range of pressure was up to 10 bars by using nitrogen gas. The results from image analysis showed the improvement of feedability by decrease in shrinkage porosity defect more than 90% (from 0.659% down to 0.053%) for the casting solidified under pressure 10 bars. Furthermore, the decreased secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) was evident with increased pressure. However, there was no significant influence of pressure both the phase evolution and solubility of alloy elements in primary α-Al dendrite.
