Confinement effects of attractive slits on the structure of linear and ring polyethylene melts |

The structural characteristics of confined linear and ring polyethylene(PE) melts with carbon atom number N up to 300 between graphite(0001) surfaces have been studied by using atomistic molecular dynamics simulations at 509 K. Layered structures of linear and ring melts near graphite/polymer interfaces are characterized by monomer density distribution, trans probability of backbone torsion angle and order parameters as a function of distance from graphite surface. Adsorption of ring PEs with N = 100 on graphite surface is observed by the analysis of center of mass and radius of gyration distribution but it is not in case of linear PEs with same N. It suggests that the entropy loss induced by adsorption of ring PE melts on attractive slits is less than that of linear chains. |
