Although polymeric dental composites has been widely used as direct esthetic restorative materials due to their esthetic quality, with improved safety issues by replacing the controversial mercury-based amalgams, they had still several important drawbacks, such as most importantly polymerization shrinkage and the possibility of potentially toxic chemicals such as bisphenol A leaching out of the fillings. These problems have led to great interest in the development of improved composite resins. In this study, acidic oligomer was synthesized and charaterized from bisphenol A glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) and itaconic anhydride, used to formulate in compomers, and to evaluated its mechanical strengths. |
