Dielectric nanocomposites based on carbon blacks functionalized with alkylsilane |

The dielectric properties of elastomer-based composites with high dielectric fillers have been intensively examined for a variety of potential applications, including dielectric elastomer actuators, capacitive touch sensor and embedded capacitor materials. In this study, we treated carbon black (CB) with alkyl-silane in order to improve their dispersibility in solvent and elastomer matrix. We confirm that the dispersibility and dielectric properties of elastomer/CB composites are depending on the amount of alkylsilane. The elastomer composites including 3wt% CB functionalized with alkylsilane exhibit much higher dielectric constant of 900 and dielectric loss of 0.12(at 100 Hz) than the elastomer/CB composites without alkylsilane treatment (dielectric constant of 7.5 and dielectric loss of 0.02 at 100 Hz at the same amount of CB). |
